The Hare & Hounds Bakery
Our bakery was born out of the first lockdown in March 2020. Our pub, Hare & Hounds in Aberthin has always been known for it’s delicious homemade bread; when we went into lockdown we borrowed a food trailer off of a friend, and started selling our breads, pastries and sandwiches to the villagers of Aberthin and the people of Cowbridge.
Owner Tom has always had his eye on this building, ever since his beloved Grandma Anna sold food from the Tamarind here many years ago. It seemed almost serendipitous that it became available at such a stressful time for our industry, and so we went for it.
Some of our wonderful team from the Hare & Hounds will be heading up this newest project. We’ll be selling our delicious breads to takeaway, along with coffee, pastries and sandwiches. When we’re able to, we’ll be offering breakfast, brunch and lunch to dine in as well, alongside the best local soft drinks and homemade freshly squeezed juices.
As with our pubs, everything will be made from scratch here in our kitchen. From our varied range of homemade breads and pastries, to our own ricotta, blood cake and brown sauce. Even our delicious hot chocolate is made from scratch by Gareth, and perfected by Rowan.
All produce will be from the best local suppliers, from seasonal fruit and vegetables, to local eggs and Vale picked laverbread. As we all know, the Vale has some of the best produce that Wales has to offer. Hopefully by the Summer, we’ll be using produce from the Hare & Hounds / Heathcock Kitchen Garden, as well as meat from Tom and Dave’s latest Cured Meats Venture.
We’re so excited about bringing our baking and our seasonal, local food into the centre of Cowbridge.
Gareth has been our pastry chef at the Hare & Hounds for just over a year. His passion for baking is incredible, and we’re so proud of the food he’s producing.
Restaurant Manager at the Hare & Hounds for nearly 2 years, Rowan will be running the Bakery with her passion for great coffee and excellent customer service.
We’ll initially be open from Wednesday to Sunday, 8:30am – 3:30pm, and are aiming to open in mid-February.
